ديفيد كوبرفيلد هي رواية للكاتب الإنجليزي الشهير تشارلز يكنز، وقد نشرت على شكل سلسلة في الفترة بين 1849 و1850. ثم تم نشر الرواية كاملة في كتاب واحد عام 1850م. وتعد هذه الرواية واحدة من أشهر روايات ديكنز وهي المفضلة لديه أيضا. ويعتقد البعض أن ديكنز جمع في هذه الرواية بعض تجاربه الشخصية التي مر بها أثناء طفولته.

تدور أحداث الرواية حول قصة ديفيد كوبرفيلد منذ طفولته حتى شبابه، فقد ولد ديفيد كوبرفيلد في سوفولك بإنجلترا بعد وفاة والده بستة أشهر، وكانت سنوات طفولته مبتهجة إلى حد ما، إذ عاش مع والدته الحنونة وكلارا بيجوتي المسؤولة عن المنزل اللطيف، وكانت أمه تناديه دائما باسم ديفي.
عندما كان ديفيد في السابعة من عمره، تزوجت والدته من رجل قاس يدعى إدوارد مردستون، وأرسل ديفيد ليعيش مع عائلة مدبرة المنزل بيجوتي في المدينة، حيث كان شقيق كلارا يعيش في بارجة على الشاطئ وكان يعمل كصياد، ويعيش أبناء أخته المتبنيين هام وإميلي وأرملة تدعى السيدة جوميدج. وقع ديفيد في حب الفتاة الصغيرة إميلي.

The novel follows the story of David Copperfield from childhood to youth. Copperfield was born in Suffolk, England, six months after the death of his father, and Copperfield’s early childhood years were happy, where he lived with his tender mother and their sweet housekeeper, Clara Pegotti, and his mother called him by the name Davy.
When Copperfield was seven years old, his mother married a tough man named Edward Murdstone, and this man sent David to live with the family of housekeeper Peggotti in a town, where Clara’s brother lived on a barge on the beach and he was a fisherman and lived with his adopted nephew Ham, his niece Emily and a widow named Mrs. Gumedge and David have loved little girl Emily.
After Copperfield returned home, he found that the situation in the house had become so bad that his stepfather’s sister came to live with them in the house, and they were both very cruel and they made the lives of David and his mother very miserable.
David’s life in this way led to him falling behind in school, and this made his stepfather harsh on him and his mother even more, and while he was abusing him, David bit his hand and decided to send him to Salem House Boarding School, to fall under the supervision of another ruthless person, the school director Mr. Crickell.

When David returns from visiting the nanny, his aunt Betsy convinces him to become a proctor, which is part of the job as a lawyer.
David meets the daughter of the owner of the company he works for, Mr. Spinlow, and falls in love with her, then learns that Mr. Parkes is ill and travels to support Clara in her ordeal, and finds that Hamm and Emily have been engaged, but Emily is not satisfied with that engagement, because of her love for Steerforth, She runs away with him, but he later mistreats and deserts her, but her uncle, Mr. Pegotti, goes to find her and returns her, while Hamm dies in a storm trying to save a ship.
